Student receiving certificate from superintendent

COPPERAS COVE – Two students at Copperas Cove High School have earned awards from the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Ehtan Olson and Nathaniel Roberts were both named Commended Students in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program.

“To be named a Commended Scholar is an outstanding accomplishment,” said Carlin Grammer, principal at Copperas Cove High School. “This recognition serves as a testament to their hard work and dedication to their academics. We are very proud of these two students and know that they will accomplish many more great things in the future.”

Olson and Roberts, although they won’t continue in the National Merit Scholarship Awards, placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the competition by taking the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Only 34,000 students nationwide are recognized as Commended Students.

“We are proud of these students for their academic prowess and this incredible achievement of theirs,” said Dr. Joe Burns, superintendent of schools. “We look forward to their future achievements beyond high school and are excited to celebrate our next National Merit Scholarship award recipients.”

Olson and Roberts are seniors at Copperas Cove High School, set to graduate in May.

They are CCISD’s first students recognized through the National Merit Scholarship Program since Isabella Childers was a finalist for the 2020 award.
