COPPERAS COVE - At its regular meeting on May 14, the CCISD Board of Trustees recognized a large group of accomplished students and staff in the district.

The Copperas Cove High School color guard was recognized for its winter season, where it advanced to the Texas Color Guard Circuit's state championships in College Station in April.

The Copperas Cove Jr. High Starlettes dance team was recognized for advancing to and placing at the ADTS Texas State Championships.

The S.C. Lee Jr. High Cougarettes dance team was recognized for advancing to and placing at the ADTS Texas State Championships.

The Copperas Cove High School Speech & Debate team was recognized for having three students advance past district competition. The team had students advance to regional competition in extemporaneous speaking, poetry interpretation and prose interpretation.

A group of art students from Copperas Cove Jr. High were recognized for winning several Visual Arts Scholastic Events (VASE) awards. These students also have had their work displayed at the Killeen Regional Airport and an art gallery in Temple.

The Copperas Cove High School softball team was recognized for advancing to the UIL Class 6A playoffs, finishing the season with a 20-9-2 record and earning the No. 2 seed from District 12-6A.

The Copperas Cove High School Track & Field team had six athletes, total, advance to the Class 6A Region II Meet in events like high jump, triple jump, the 800-meter run, hurdles and even shot put.

The Copperas Cove HS boys powerlifting team had four students qualify for State in three separate weight classes: Norris Manning, Rion Childers, Tristan Pettit and Tyden Cepull.

The CCHS girls golf team qualified for the UIL Class 6A Region II Tournament and was recognized for doing so.

The Copperas Cove HS Unified Track & Field team was recognized for winning the team regional championship and qualifying for State. At State, the team finished 5th overall and saw Top-10 finishes in five separate events.

Williams/Ledger Elementary School was recognized for its efforts in raising $20,004 dollars and helping the district raise a total of $45,750.49 for the United Way of the Greater Tri-County Area. The campus' United Way sponsor was P.E. teacher Terri Jernigan.

The board also recognized several Career & Technology Student Organizations from Copperas Cove High School for their competition results this year.

Seven students from Construction advanced to State competition in Opening & Closing Ceremony after winning 2nd place at regionals: Erin Duff, Riley Yunitis, Tyler Dowling, Alejandra Munoz, Nayyab Kahn, Marissa Cartwright and Alexis Sotelo.

Cole Soisson also advanced to regionals in Masonry.

Aries Jorgenson advanced to regionals in Tool ID.

Kevin Carter and Lui Muniz Morales were recognized for Additive Manufacturing.

The Criminal Justice Club advanced to regionals in cell extraction and job exhibit, also advancing to State competition.

Culinary Club saw multiple students win awards. Leslie Straczek won a blue ribbon at regionals in 3-to-5 tier cake.

Angel Lopez won first place at regionals for Wedding Cake Designed. She also won a Blue Ribbon at regionals for 1-2 tiers hero cake, winning a red ribbon at State.

The Culinary Quiz Boal team won 1st place at regional competition.

Alex Barnes also won 2nd place in Restaurant Services at regional competition.

The HOSA chapter at CCHS won a long list of awards, including recognitions from the state for 1st in the state in its blood drive, earning a gold-level contribution. Carter BloodCare also recognized Copperas Cove HS as the top 6A high school in the region with 467 units donated.

Six HOSA students were recognized for winning 1st place in Public Health at regional competition.

Audri Mcintosh and Kali Martinez won 1st place at regionals and 6th place at State in Medical Innovation.

Julissa Guevara won 3rd place at regionals and 4th place at State in Interviewing Skills.

Carson Jaccaud won 3rd place at regionals and 10th place at State in Physical Therapy.

Brenda Thomas won 4th place at regionals and 7th place at State in Human Growth & Development. She also represented the district as an Area Officer and earned the Barbara James Service Award for more than 100 hours of service.

Micah Smith won 1st place at regional competition and 6th place at State in Epidemiology.

In Medical Art Poster, Lainey Estores won 7th place at regionals.

A'Mirikale Davis won the THOA Area 5 Scholarship Award.

Anthony Aguilar earned a regional recognition in HOSA Happenings.

In SkillsUSA Information Technology Services, Krish Bhakta won 2nd place in district and qualified for State.

In that same event, David Doyle won 1st place in district competition and qualified for State.

Julian Landeros and Rene Diaz won 3rd place in Commercial Drone Demonstration.

The SkillsUSA Information Technology Quiz Bowl team won 2nd place at regional competition.

Marcus Wang and Julian Landeros won 2nd place at regionals in Web Design & Development.

In SkillsUSA Engineering, Samantha Dunlap won 1st place at regionals and 3rd at State in Robotics Urban Search & Rescue.

The Robotics Automation team of Nathan Gulley, Corbin Macik, Ethan Olson and Alan Fincher was recognized for its achievements.

The Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) chapter at Copperas Cove HS received several recognitions, as well.

Ashari Benjamin qualified for State in Teacher Created Materials-Elementary Level.

Madeline Gardner and Kaden Heimbuck qualified for State in Ethical Dilemma.

Robert Glass qualified for State in Impromptu Speaking.

Jasmine Heise qualified for State in Educators Rising Moment.

Anissa Richardson qualified for State in Children's Literature K-3.

Mya Rogers qualified for State in Student of the Year.

Jenny Vade qualified for State in Exploring Non-Core Careers and Job Interview.

Adrianna Williams qualified for state in Exploring Non-Core Careers.

The trustees also recognized staff members who have worked in Texas public schools for more than 20 years and have retired at year's end.

  • Dorrie Elmore, Instructional Aide at Mae Stevens Early Learning Academy, was recognized for 29 years of service to CCISD

  • Gwendolyn Gray, 7th-grade Reading & Language Arts teacher at Copperas Cove Jr. High, was recognized for 24 years of service in public education, 16 to CCISD

  • CW3 Enrique Herrera, JROTC instructor at Copperas Cove High School, was recognized for 28 years of service to public education, 23 to students in CCISD

  • Terri Jernigan, P.E. teacher at Williams/Ledger Elementary, was recognized for 40 years of service to students in CCISD

  • Brian Jost, Principal at S.C. Lee Jr. High, was recognized for 29 years of service to students in CCISD

  • Karin Julian, Instructional Aide at Clements/Parsons Elementary, was recognized for 33 years of service to students in CCISD

  • James Ortiz, Teacher at Copperas Cove High School, was recognized for 29 years of service to students in CCISD

  • Janet Ortner, Multi-Purpose Clerk at Clements/Parsons Elementary, was recognized for 24 years of service to students in CCISD

  • Wilson Rivera, HVAC Foreman in the maintenance department was recognized for 27 years of service to the students in CCISD

  • Margaret Shanahan, Teacher at Fairview/Jewell Elementary, was recognized for 43 years of service to public education, 11 to the students in CCISD

  • Denise Smith, Kindergarten Teacher at Clements/Parsons Elementary, was recognized for 24 years of service to the students of CCISD

  • Jill Stickler, Teacher at Clements/Parsons Elementary, was recognized for 25 years of service to the students of CCISD

  • Alice Webb, Instructional Aide at Copperas Cove High School, was recognized for 26 years of service to the students of CCISD

  • Jack Whiteley III, Special Education Inclusion Teacher at Copperas Cove Jr. High, was recognized for 28 years in public education, 1 dedicated to the students of CCISD

  • Lana Whiteley, Special Education Self-Contained Teacher at Copperas Cove Jr. High, was recognized for 29 years in public education, 1 dedicated to the students of CCISD

  • Sheila Wright, Teacher at Clements/Parsons Elementary, was recognized for 30 years of service to the students of CCISD

  • Janelle Boyer, Secretary at Mae Stevens Early Learning Academy, was recognized for 21 years of service to CCISD

  • Jodi Wagner, Teacher at Mae Stevens Early Learning Academy, was recognized for 29 years of service to the students of CCISD
