COPPERAS COVE – There is a new leader at Copperas Cove High School.
Tuesday, the Copperas Cove ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved the hiring of Carlin Grammer as the new principal at CCHS.
Grammer is a veteran high school principal, having served in the role since 2005 in three districts across Texas. Most recently, he has served as principal at La Porte High School since 2017.
Prior to La Porte, Grammer served as principal at Crane High School in far west Texas from 2005-14 and at Midland Senior High School from 2014-17.
Grammer has extensive experience in implementing and overseeing a campus budget for a high school campus with a student population above 2,000 and he holds an active superintendent certification with the State Board for Educator Certification.
“I am honored to have been selected for this position and am blessed to be part of such a great district,” Grammer said. “I look forward to working alongside the CCHS team to provide the students of this community with the best education possible. My wife, Penni, and I are excited to be joining the community of Copperas Cove.”
Grammer earned his bachelor’s degree in 1985 and his master’s degree in school administration in 2003, both from Sul Ross State University. He is actively pursuing a doctoral degree in organizational leadership from Liberty University.
“I am confident that Mr. Grammer’s vast experience as a high school principal will greatly benefit the students in Copperas Cove,” said superintendent Dr. Joe Burns. “He has served in very different areas of the state and seen success everywhere he’s been. He brings a new perspective that we truly believe will continue to improve upon the great work at Copperas Cove High School in order to continue to educate the whole child.”
As high school principal, Grammer will oversee more than 2,200 students and approximately 200 staff, while also guiding the district’s efforts in College, Career & Military Preparedness, which is a state accountability measure.
He is scheduled to assume his role in Cove in July.
Trustees also unanimously approved a contract with DHMSA Construction to install security fencing on campuses across the district, improving security for all staff and students in Copperas Cove.
“The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff is the single most important thing we consider in all we do,” Burns said. “We have fencing needs on multiple campuses in the district and DHMSA is ready to provide schools in Copperas Cove the type of fencing needed to enforce a secure barrier, creating the safest environment we possibly can for every student and employee in our district.”
Burns said he is hopeful the fencing will be installed prior to staff returning to start the 2024-25 school year.
Additionally, the board approved the replacement of the of the fire panel and fire alarm system at S.C. Lee Jr. High School, the expansion of Dual Credit offerings at CCHS through Tarleton State University and the purchase of 34 interactive panels for Copperas Cove HS, S.C. Lee Jr. High and Copperas Cove Jr. High School with ESSER III funds.
The board is next scheduled to hold its regular workshop and meeting in July. The workshop is scheduled for Noon on July 15th and the regular monthly meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. July 16th.
Both meetings will be held in the Board Room at the CCISD Service & Training Center located at 408 S. Main St.
